Yosel Bergner – “Angry Objects” – Drawings & Yosef Schlein – Sculptors of birds and animals
Yosef Schlein, Yosel Bergner
Curator: Levin Irit
30 Jun — 23 July, 2001
At the Jerusalem Artists’ House is currently taking place a joint exhibition by Yosl Bergner and Yosef Schlein. The present cooperation between these two creators is not fortuitous. It was born in the course of many years of friendship, during which Bergner followed closely the development of his friend and colleague’s work, maintained a dialogue with him and encouraged him to carry on in his unique way.
Bergner’s contribution to the exhibition is the paintings called “Angry Objects”, new drawings in charcoal, on canvas. Bergner chooses from his well-known reservoir of images – graters, birds and household utensils, which he now calls “angry”, moving towards each other and about to collide.
Yosef Schlein, and Entomologist, started sculpting in his youth, having exhibited in a number of one-man exhibitions. Schlein creates quasi-realistic sculptures, in wood, bronze and shredded material – broken glass and polyester.
His sculptures of animals and birds feature abundant vitality and power, creating a constant impression that they are about to fly, to take off, to leap.
Curator: Irit Levin
A Catalogue of the exhibition has been published.
