Universes – Video Installation
Joseph Dadoune
6 Mar — 18 April, 2004
“Universes” is a journey that transports the observer into a world of imagery. Yet, it involves a physical experience – a reaction to the daily confrontation of surviving in a reality characterized by a harsh blend of western culture, Judaism, The Mediterranean world, Europe, Middle East, Zionism, war, superstition, “periphery” vs. “center.” The journey transpires within the Israeli setting – a milieu that has come to grips with its inseparable link to the Middle East despite its preferred closeness to Europe. “Universes” is a personal monologue confronting the observer on an intimate level – without any connection to the culture from which it emerges. Against a backdrop of western cinema, Dadoune presents his movie within a dramatically different framework – one that invites the observer to participate in a physical experience.
