Revital Lessick presents in her exhibition fantastic and imaginary situations that describe uncomfortable conditions, an internal reality and a unique artistic language.
Her paintings are like fields of color that captivate the canvas, spaces that are created by a grid originated from the thickness of the paintbrush. The image that is revealed in the vast space that Lessick creates deals with urges, fears, pain, dark and undefined places and even paradoxical and ridiculous situations. The image alone distorts the vastness of color. It is made by quick and primal brushstrokes, by the marking of the brush hairs’ texture and by the subtraction of paint. It does not copy a realistic object but is in itself a represented object connecting the viewer to the narrative.
Through the image, the wide open space of color becomes a specific space and a defined environment; a primal, symbolic environment that represents a state of awareness. Thus a dialogue is created between the colors, used as a base and revealed during the act of drawing, and the image on the layer above.
