Eyal Gaziel
Curator: Kalaora Yifat, Avtalion Jackont Hadas
23 Oct — 13 December, 2014
The exhibition showcases selected works from the series Memories. In his works, Gaziel seeks to reconstruct his personal childhood memories from a peripheral neighborhood. Gaziel chooses past experiences branded unto his memory and mind, and reassembles them as scenes in a play – his home neighborhood functions as scenery and its residents are the main actors.
As director, Gaziel leaves nothing to chance, as he stages, dresses and styles his characters, chooses the time of day and precise hour best suited for the shooting, places the props and adjusts the lighting. The journey back in time through the photographer’s eyes creates a new reality in which the adult gaze and puerile fantasy coalesce. Embarking on an infinite search, we return time and again to a universal story of a familiar place that can be a part of us, but sometimes feels strange and estranged. A place of doubtful existence: home.
