Late Bloomer, Photography
Dafna Grossman
Curator: Eytan Shouker
13 Oct — 24 November, 2007
Dafna Grossman exhibits staged portraits, most of the sitters gaze at the camera and are located in a dream setting. Her works carry a touch of the melancholy, while the figures seem to be aware of their beauty, of their independence and their uniqueness; they all look somewhat detached as well, lost. Grossman creates the impression that loneliness rules the life of her figures; as if what is exhibited to the outside is just a shell of their inner self.
The children she has photographed glance at us with a defiant gaze, a gaze that in the adults figures changes into bitterness, sadness and acceptance of fate. The name of this exhibition, “Late Bloomer” hints at optimism and at a possibility to accept and rectify, which might lead the figures from a world of fantasy to the real world.
