Knead Pain Into Thin Air
Tal Rosen
Curator: Dalia Levin
25 Aug — 13 October, 2018
Tal Rosen continues his inquiries into plants and organic matter, which he transforms into art objects. Like a scientist in the lab, he conducts experiments: gathering and sorting, dissecting and drying, slicing and stitching, imprinting insights and casting an autobiography. He’s calling the viewer to be active: to smell, touch – to become a performer, so the artistic act is thus expanded, linking people, substances, places, and times.
The viewers are expected a challenging task; meeting a horizontal canvas that sorts the visitors by height, hence inevitably—by gender. The women prevents from seeing what is going on at the top. While the men can penetrate the upper sphere, but their gaze is also restricted. Blurring gender boundaries and blending “feminine” and “masculine” elements are typical of Rosen’s artistic practice and of the works and performances in the current exhibition.
