As part of his personal research, spread out over a period of years, Simon has studied the city’s various strata and all their attendant absurdities through the lens of his camera.
“Jerusalem has always fascinated me,” he relates. “During my tours I have gotten to know various places and people, and I took photographs. I have accumulated thousands of photographs of Jerusalem but have always had a strong sensation that every photograph has already been seen somewhere in the past.” His search for that one “special” photograph of Jerusalem has led to a series of black-and-white photographs displayed at the exhibition. “I discovered that the city has colors that do not appear on any artist’s palette. I spoke with many Jerusalemites and found that every Jerusalemite has colors of his own.
