Alfandary Shlomo
Curator: Tami Bezaleli-Shohet
18 Jul — 18 August, 2009
Shlomo Alfandary presents a selection of his recent works, large abstract paintings on canvas consisting of layer upon layer of dynamic brush strokes and vivid color. The compositions radiate intensity like music deep and compelling that is simultaneously disjointed and harmonious. In the ink drawing Alfandary races his hand across the paper with complete spontaneity. In black and white, with a few gestures seemingly uncalculated, he produces a design which probes and analyses a topic. Usually his is an image which dominates the whole page. He exploits the natural bleeding of the ink, often diluted with water, to create shadowy patterns of darkness and light. Shlomo invites us to see his work from a different point of view. Very few works call upon a viewer to enter right into them, into their innermost recesses, and to be exactly where the artist was at the time of the work’s creation. From such a point of view the looker perceives not only through his or her eyes but through all the bodily senses. Reading an idiom almost entirely abstract devoid of any sign or notification of definitive form or structure, the viewer becomes aware of any hint of movement, of the merest suggestion of activity or order, of any silent space between the vivid, chaotic details and an enriched, interactive viewing experience is the welcome consequence.
