Flowers Field
25 Jun — 31 July, 2005
David Levinstein paints flower fields, and does not concentrate on a particular flower. He is not interested in the specific symbolism of a flower; instead he explores the rhythm of color, using the opportunity presented by a flower field, to paint large areas of color and movement. His flowers dissolve into patches of color, painted with expressiveness, dynamically composed bordering on abstraction. Fields of flowers, lacking any perspective structure, are painted as segments of nature, while layers of color give them depth and only slight contouring hints on the familiar shape of a flower or a leaf.
