Flowers and thorns from the earth of Israel
Pinhas Golan
Curator: Hana Barak Engel
13 Oct — 24 November, 2007
The series of works presented in this exhibition can be viewed as an intermediate chapter is Pinhas Golan’s serious, profound and critical body of work. Golan creates Flower-Thorns which reflect and analyze the existential-Israeli reality. He combines different materials thus creating somewhat geological and substantial unpleasant layers. His works, primarily sketches, which are dominated by earthy and sandy colors, are rarely lightened by a passing patch of color, secretly presenting the viewer with the realization that there is more there than meets the eye. And still, the compositions presented, which are meager in matter but rich in substance, and so abundantly aesthetic, invite the viewer into an alert discussion.
