A few months after the El-Aksa Intifada, I left Jerusalem and traveled north. There, on the banks of the Jordan River, in a place hidden from view, I had a purely escapist experience. The flow of the water, the light reflected in it, and the unbelievable silence replaced the sounds of explosions and terror, which had reached my door on The Street of the Prophets in Jerusalem. Longing for this sheltered place, gave birth to these paintings. While working, I realized that I was trying to reconstruct the music of the water, the movement of the light; that I was trying to impose reality on the unreal; that I was yearning for beauty – a yearning that could never be satisfied.
