Following her recent exhibition at the Barbur Gallery, Jerusalem, Riva Pinsky Awadish continues to study the relationship between the act of painting and the platform, using the given material as a readymade. Pinsky Awadish uses various fabrics with different textures into which she weaves and onto which she draws and paints personal and dizzying images with a free hand.
The current works on display at the Jerusalem Artists’ House differ from her previous works by being arranged in a disciplined order dictated by the grid. They are based on a clear, cyclical structure, on points of encounter and collisions between vertical and horizontal lines that seem to trace the regularity of the weave.
The artist uses fabric such as a kaffiyeh, blanket and shawl to provide starting points for painterly and imaginative development.
