This year’s winner of the Osnat Mozes Painting Prize for a Young Artist is Yaara Oren.
Excerpts from the Prize Committee’s decision: “Yaara Oren has created an impressive, intense body of work which does not remain static. It constantly evolves, attesting to great talent. Her works offer an ethnic and aesthetic expression of the place and time. Her painting is nourished by the sights in the makeshift environment in which she lives and works: the southern Tel Aviv Shapira neighborhood on the outskirts of the city, with its houses, courtyards, and residents.Despite the virtuosity and intricacy discernible in her works, Oren opts for a communicative, aesthetic, gratifying painting, which does not turn its back on the viewer. Rather than avant-garde, she consecrates the human element. In the past two years Oren has created works in which the painterly field has unraveled, growing more complex. The images are hinted, and the whole flirts with the fragment. These are sensual paintings, playful and vivacious, which, at the same time, indicate the artist’s commitment and creativit.”
