Between Painting and Photography
Aurore Reinicke
Curator: Marie Shek
5 Apr — 11 May, 2003
Aurore Reinicke is a French artist who resided in Tel Aviv between 1987-90, studying art at the Avni College. Her memories of Tel Aviv, her acquaintance with Israeli mentality and her infatuation with “the Mediterranean”, are the forces behind this exhibition as well as photographs taken in Tunisia in 2000. At that time she had no idea that a year later she would be returning to Israel. Indeed, this added a new dimension to her works. In the series exhibited here reality creates tension. Large images of deep blue pools, unveil personal dimensions loaded with meaning – ripples of the water pumps create movement on the brink between reality and abstraction, between reality and imagination. Reinicke’s artistic eye creates a transposition from Tunisia to Israel whereby a banal and universal object acquires specific and local significance according to its time and place, and, of course, according to the eye of the beholder.
