Gunther Forg was born in 1952 in Fussen, Germany. Studied at the Munich Akademy of Art.
His work has been exhibited in solo shows in central museums in Europe (such as the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam in 1985, Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1991) and U.S.A (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1989)
Gunter Forg belongs, beside Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke, to the contemporary German top artists of the international art scene.
Piet Mondrian, the Bauhaus, and Barnett Newman inspired Forg. But, loving literature and film , he is also inspired by Thomas Bernhard, Ezra Pound and Jean-Luc Godard.
Gunther Forg’s main subject is the “window” as a symbol of opening up to one another and thus to life which wants to be lived in all its diversity. It is this beauty that characterizes his work.
Gunther Forg’s exhibition at the Artists House will be a representative show of his work: paintings (some large “windows”) as well as photos (architectural motifs of buildings by Bruno Taut or Clemens Holzmeister) and portfolios (etchings and watercolors together with texts by George Trakl, Osip Mandelstam and others).
During his stay in Israel Forg will make photos of Bauhaus buildings in Tel Aviv to present this series in one of his next exhibitions.
