7th Exhibition in the 18th Nidbach Series: Strange Truth

Yoav Friedlander’s photographic images are created in two different cultural environments: USA and Israel. Some are staged, fabricated and photographed in a home setting while others are resulted by observation and a process of documenting the outside world. All of them, whether created indoors or outdoors, are based on the perception of the photographic image as a form of media which contains multilayered cultural codes. Friedlander’s images evoke unusual reading and interpretation of known cultural symbols, such as the model of the Zionist watchtower – “Wall and Tower” that had being installed on the artist’s bed. The geographic distance between the scenes of occurrences and the mental distance between the appearances of exteriors and interiors is being simultaneously used to examine the differences as well as states of complementary situations.
