5th exhibition in the 18th Nidbach series- :Oםסo0oסםO:
Carmel Michaeli’s creation field is the present. Her works feeds from it and feeds it back. They take into account a diffuse space, in which the walls between center and margins, historical hierarchies and geographical spaces as well as cultural spaces, all collapse; a present in which every action entails a reaction that puts it in a new perspective. This is a time that relies on a second glance and on the transition of the familiar towards new platforms that relocates it under a different gaze. Sci-fi meets New Age on a rooftop of an apartment in Jaffa, Israel.
Two videos, showing two parallel scenes, are presented in this exhibition: on the rooftop, a group of young topless woman stands in a circle at twilight. They wear colorful veils and psychedelic makeup, doing yoga exercises according to the instructor guidance. At the center of the circle stands the performing artists and performs, accompanied by a computer, an original version of the song “Shir Mishmar”, written by the Israeli poet Nathan Alterman. Inside the house, to the sounds of the same sound track, a group of young man holds hands and moves in a circle, according to the folk dance instructor guidance.
