2nd exhibition in the 13th Nidbach series
Yair Steinmetz
Curator: Adika David
2 December, 2006 — 20 January, 2007
From the 13 th. Nidbach series
Like a “diet thief” or a “light covetous” Yair Steinmetz walks in his public and private world, mingles within his friends and family members, while photographing / steeling certain moments. The photograph time is a time of leisure and of idleness almost abolition. The motivation is to pass the time, to maintain a hedonist and unattainable daily order. In the sequence of occurrence Yair Steinmetz’s camera is the active one – it documents the “nothingness” and while doing so, presents the components of the photographed situation. The photographed manliness is seeking new ways of expressing itself in the state of inactivity. The manly gestures, those whose function is to “make an impression” are going through a sublimation process while being transferred into the photography, they become refined on the one hand and sublime on the other.
