שחר בן ישי, והגדת לבנך, 2014, סקיצה דיגיטלית
1st exhibition in the 19th Nidbach series: Tell your son
Shahar Ben Ishay
Curator: Daum Dror
30 Aug — 18 October, 2014
Shahar Ben Ishay, graduate of the Faculty of Arts at Beit Berl College, explores the interplay between traditional sculpting and technologies used in construction and engineering. The exhibition comprises two large-scale works: the first is a hammered copper board imitating the texture of bricks known as “Jerusalem stone,” placed perpendicular to the floor and supported by compressed dry clay; the second work is a construction made up of hollow iron profiles and lamps, to which “distressed” wooden bricks are attached. Both works are based on the artist’s study of major Israeli sites of preservation and heritage – the Western Wall and the archaeological excavations in Caesarea, considered to this day exemplars of architectural and engineering mastery.
