All are chosen intuitively to answer an inner need.

There is an ambiguous narrative in Sassoon’s paintings. An expression of displacement and detachment, in both a cultural and geographical sense – even loneliness, characterize the figures which populate them. Hence, “Points of Departure” may also refer to feelings of shift and change that are concealed in her work.

The figures seem to be on the move or at a turning point.
