It is an established tradition at the Artists\u2019 House to open the year\u2019s exhibition season with a show by the newest members of The Jerusalem Artists\u2019 Association. Three artists of varied media and subjects of interest joined this year:Yaakov Israel, Meital Kovo and Yonatan Ron, providing an opportunity to be introduced to segments of their work as well as to different representational practices.<\/p>\n
Yaakov Israel will show Postcards from Israel \u2013 a series of photographs that started out as an Instagram project and will be presented for the first time as an installation. The series is a photographic journey throughout Israel from a seemingly foreign ortouristic perspective. Sharply observant, the camera skillfully captures iconic moments and significant cultural characteristics of Israeli day to day life.<\/p>\n
Meital Kovo will present a selection of her work in video, sound and photography, interoperating the subject of the mouth as an organ that connects the body\u2019s depths with its outside. As a mechanism that not only speaks, but fills the body with air and food, Kovo suggests to view it as a channel from the outside \u2013 in and vice versa. The exhibition will show works exploring different functions of the mouth- laughing, screaming, chewing and speaking.<\/p>\n
Yonatan Ron will show an assortment of oil on wood paintings from recent years. Beginning with a photographic source, his paintings reveal a vast array of inspirations \u2013 pictures taken with his personal phone, downloaded images from the internet, reproductions of 17th century Dutch Masters, paper clippings, science fiction movies, animation and Japanese Manga.<\/p>\n
