Introduced in 2007, the Prize includes a 10,000 NIS award and a solo exhibition at the Jerusalem Artists’ House. Oksenberg’s exhibition will open at the Jerusalem Artists’ House on November 2, 2024.

In their statement, the prize committee members—Hadas Hassid, Talia Israeli, and Tal Yerushalmi—noted:

Daniel Oksenberg’s painting is sensitive and sensual. Color meets color, texture meets texture; the color is smeared, erased, scraped, and layered. The image is built through a constant search into the depths of painterly languages. It is a multifaceted, multidirectional, and multidimensional painting, with an inherent passion for experimenting with matter, language, and image.

Oksenberg’s painting stems from seeking and taking unknown paths. It is as though he strives to give form, color, and substance to the depths of the soul, to places where words lose their power. The images appear and forthwith lose their form; flowers, fruits, and bodily organs are identified and soon disappear in the painting’s layers. His painting touches on absence; it gets lost only to grow into something lively, surprising, and unique.

The value of searching and experimenting in Oksenberg’s paintings also crosses over into the installation. The boundaries of the painting, like the boundaries of the image, are unraveled and open to questions. The paintings spill into installations, which expand and stretch the painterly possibilities, transforming the painting into a space, and the exhibition space into a painting that extends beyond itself. The ability of a painting to become an installation is an internal position in Oksenberg’s works, resulting from the painting’s freedom to be experimental, seeking, and living.

For all these qualities we have decided to confer the 2024 Osnat Mozes Painting Prize for a Young Artist on Daniel Oksenberg, in the hope that it will serve as a lever for fruitful studio work and artistic excellence.

Prize committee: Hadas Hassid, Talia Israeli, Tal Yerushalmi

*The award ceremony will be held on November 17, 2024*

Daniel Oksenberg – CV

1992, Israel; Lives and creates in Tel-Aviv

Education
2016 Bachelor of Fine Arts (Cum Laude), Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.

Solo Exhibitions
2024 Daniel in Paris, Institut Français d’Israël, Tel Aviv.
