Gunther Uecker
27 Jun — 21 July, 1998
Gunther Uecker, one of the leading contemporary artists in Germany, visited Israel in 1991 after an invitation from Mr. Jonah Fisher. During this visit, inspired by the desert landscape, Uecker painted watercolor series “Leviathan” (48 works in watercolor).
The artist refers to the evil monster , evil force which is mentioned in the Bible and that was defeated by God Himself, and which can be defeated even today by faith in God.
“On that day he ordered in his hard sword and the great and strong whale on the whale snake escaped and twisted serpent and killed the crocodile, which is the sea.” (Isaiah Twenty-seventh Sunday)
Uecker, considers its historical roots in the Jewish faith, choose to show the series “Whale” in the artists’ house in Jerusalem as well as a tribute to the city of Jerusalem and to state of Israel in its 50 year.
the Gallery exhibition was organized by the PCC (Political Club Colonia).
